Time to Change Your Filters

Published on May 15, 2016

As the summer rolls around it may be time to pack in those warm comforters and substitute the heat for a cool blast from the air conditioning. However, before you turn on the AC make sure you follow these steps to keep it in shape! Studies show that indoor air pollution is among the top five environment health risks. Clogged, dirty filters block normal airflow and reduce a system’s efficiency significantly. Replacing your air conditioner filters with clean ones can lower your energy consumption for the unit by 5% to 15%.

In general, most manufacturers insist you change your air filters bi-monthly. However, if you have dust allergies it is recommended you change the air filters more frequently. Also, pets that shed a lot can also work towards clogging your air filter, and that should be factored into how often you change your air filter.
After figuring out these external factors you should identify what type of filter you own. A fiberglass filter look like a window screen with a larger frame and should be replaced at least once a month. A pleated filter is rectangular and should be replaced at least every 90 days.

Another option to decrease your energy consumption is using Phantoms Screens to create cross-ventilation within your home. Phantom Screens are perfect for bringing refreshing fresh air in, while keeping flying pests out. Through letting air flow through your home, a natural breeze can flow through your home allowing you to turn off your AC and lower your energy bill. In addition, with environmental concerns at the forefront for so many homeowners these days, this is a simple way to contribute to a greener planet.

Our retractable screens are fantastic addition to your home and allow you to enjoy the fresh air through your home. Phantom Screens’ retractable screens retract out of sight when not in use and are a beautiful alternative to old-fashioned, framed screens. Phantom’s screens offer a discreet solution which integrates perfectly with your home’s trim, keeping virtually hidden when not in use.

Phantom’s professional installation is the ideal way to ensure that design and size requirements are met and that the screens are properly installed for longevity of the parts, finishes and mesh. Look at your screening differently! Contact us for a free, no obligation in-home consultation today!
