It’s that time of year again where the flowers are blooming, the winter jackets are stored away, the sun begins to peek out slowly and the semi annual purge many Canadian’s go through – spring cleaning season!
Carpeting and Rugs
From feet to spills – your carpets are some of the most abused part of your home. To start off your carpet cleaning, start by vacuuming the area and focusing on particularly dirty spots for 30-45 seconds. For rugs, make sure you vacuum under the carpeting as well to get rid of anything that may have snuck there over the winter months. If you face any persistent stains on your carpeting, you may look into a professional carpet cleaning service.
Windows
To clean your window panes, use a damp squeegee dipped in a mixture of warm water and dish soap and gently wipe down the surface. After all the dirt is removed from the pane dry the pane with a clean cloth.
Another important aspect of your windows are the blinds that garnish them. Plastic and aluminum blinds should be cleaned with a duster to remove any potential particles that were lingering between the crevasses. Wipe wooden blinds with a gentle wood cleaner during your spring cleaning to maintain the cleanliness of the blinds.
If you have any curtains to decorate your windows remember to clean them either with a wash or using a cleaning steamer if you own one. You may want to consider changing the curtains to lighter and “springy” design to match the change in seasons.
Bedding
Your mattress gets daily use so take some time this cleaning season to freshen it up with these quick tips! Remove all your beddings and put them in the wash following the appropriate care settings outlined in its label. Then pour baking soda over a sieve and dust the mattress evenly which will draw out moisture and eliminate any odors. Leave the baking soda on your mattress while you dress your bed. Vacuum the baking soda off your mattress the next time you need to change your sheets.
Refrigerator
Take the time during your cleaning rituals to face the daunting task of organizing your fridge. This includes wiping spills or stains off with a wet wipe and throwing out any old food that may spoil. In addition, wash the interior with a solution of baking soda and warm water to prevent any bacterial growth.
These tips will help your home sparkle just like the sun outside. Enjoy!
