Painting the rooms in your home is a fantastic way to add your own personal flair to your living space. However, when people go to any paint store the thousands of choices they are presented with often overwhelm them. From minute differences in the shades of certain colors to Fiery Red and Sky Blue, here are 6 tips to help you find the perfect paint.
1. Mood
It is scientifically proven that different colors evoke different emotions within people. Some colors like light blues and darker shades of colors like maroon and greys give rooms a calm mood whereas vibrant colors bring a positive and lively energy to the room.
2. Weather
Living in Ontario, Canada we often have seven to eight months of the year where the sky is grey and the winter blues are in full effect. Bright colors in your rooms allow there to be energy in the winter whereas as duller colors could add to the seasonal downs that many people feel in the wintertime.
3. Inspiration
Google is your best friend! Look up various different home decor pictures to be inspired about how other people have used paints and furniture to create different spaces in their home. Here are a couple interesting albums to get your mind working on what you like and what you don’t!

4. Lighting
How light hits your walls and paints can vastly change the energy that’s given off by the color as well as what shade is viewed by your eye. Having fluorescent lights create a colder, bluer tone to your rooms whereas incandescent lights create a warm feeling. Make sure you factor in lamps, windows, ceiling lights, and other lighting fixtures to how you want your living spaces to look like at the end of the day.
5. Interaction with Home
Think about how the colors in your home will interact with other elements in your home. We talked about the lighting, but how will the colors of your furniture complement your paint choices. If you have young children maybe going with darker shades would be better as it will disguise stains and marks better.
6. Color Schemes
There are various different schemes that you can go for with your rooms to create an aesthetically pleasing living space. By choosing furniture that complement your paint choices you will accentuate the vibe that you are trying to create with your room.
