A series inspired by the beauty of opening up your door to good things!
There is a saying that when one door closes, another door opens. When you hear that phrase, what does it bring to mind? Opportunities sometimes are presented to us in unusual ways. Have you ever had an opportunity in life present itself to you in the strangest way?
I was reminded of that saying while scrolling through the photos on a memory card from one of the cameras here at the Ontario Phantom Screens office. I stumbled upon this photo from a Home Show in the winter of 2006. Back then, there was a downtown Toronto show that ran during late January, in preparation for the upcoming spring home renovation season. We always participated in that show, as it was a great way to connect with so many potential customers who were wise enough to think ahead and get a jump on their spring To Do list.
There was a particularly bad flu going around our office at that time, and it turned out that our employee who was scheduled to open our booth that day was just too sick to come to work. And – unable to find anyone else to cover on such short notice – I headed downtown and got us set up to open up the show for the day.
It wasn’t at all what I had planned for the day. But as I chatted with show attendees and showed them our products, I felt I had a unique connection with one customer in particular. She was a wonderful woman, bright and full of energy, and as we chatted about her plans for her home, the topic of her work came up. At the time, she was working to raise funds for Interim Place, a Mississauga based organization which provides shelter, advocacy and hope to woman and children fleeing violent situations. Inspired by both her passion and the desire to give back to the city our business calls home, a partnership was born!
Phantom Screens has supported Interim Place every year since. And in 2016, our tenth year of fundraising and donating towards their wonderful work, we are proud to be Gold Sponsors of Interim Place’s Rays of Hope Gala, which takes place in Brampton on Saturday March 5th, 2016.
